Corn dolly making is an endangered heritage craft which has evolved from harvest rituals almost as ancient as agriculture itself.
It is also fun to do and consists of making attractive and intricate straw ornaments. On this workshop we will be looking at the history and the diverse forms the corn dolly has taken over the ages.
Students will be able to make corn dollies to take home using traditional methods and old varieties of wheat. We will be making traditional dollies and also be taking a look at a modern take on an old craft.
Building upon the skills covered in the Introduction to Corn Dollies workshop, tutor Colette Hughes will be teaching how to make traditional corn dollies using spiral plaiting and other techniques. This workshop has been devised with returning students in mind, but newcomers to the craft with a certain amount of manual dexterity are also welcome to attend
