Two Day Course: Cost - £160. Deposit - £80.
Saturday 10th – Sunday 11th May 2024
Join basketmaker Jeanette Gray of Weaving Wild for the first wild basketry course of the year. As Spring gets under way and the sap starts to rise it is possible to peel bark straight from the tree! We will focus on this flexible and leather like material- exploring different techniques of folding and weaving to create beautiful baskets and pouches.
This course is part of a series of 4 spaced throughout the year. Each course we will work with the seasons to learn how to forage, prepare and work with a variety of wild materials using a range of traditional and innovative basketry techniques. The courses will open your eyes to the craft possibilities that exist in every garden, hedgerow, riverside, bog and wasteland!
You will leave the Spring course with the confidence to identify and harvest willow and other barks, and the skills to make two different baskets, combining your bark with a variety of other materials.
The course will take place in the beautiful woods at the Woodland Skills Centre around the cosy campfire, with wet/cold weather contingencies provided for. Teas, coffee and biscuits and a simple mid-day meal will be provided each day.
There is the opportunity to camp at the Centre with access to kitchen, w.c. and shower. There is a small charge of £5 per person/per night.
If you book through the website please pay the full cost if possible.
If you wish to just pay the deposit then the balance must be paid by 4 weeks before the course date.
