One Day Course: Cost - £80. Deposit - £40.
Saturday 6th December 2025
Please note that due to the time of year and the limitations of the weather, this is a ONE day course and not a full weekend.
When plants are dormant and the sap is low it is the perfect time to harvest vines and other woody materials. Join basketmaker Jeanette Gray of Weaving Wild to learn how to magically turn brambles and ivy from misunderstood weeds into useful, respected and much loved basketry materials!
This course is part of a series of 4 spaced throughout the year. Each course we will work with the seasons to learn how to forage, prepare and work with a variety of wild materials using a range of traditional and innovative basketry techniques. The courses will open your eyes to the craft possibilities that exist in every garden, hedgerow, riverside, bog and wasteland!
You will leave the winter course with the confidence to identify and safely harvest and prepare willow, ivy and brambles. You will also create a small woven basket utilising all of these and a range of different skills (don't worry we will learn how to dethorn the brambles first!).
The course will take place in the beautiful woods at the Woodland Skills Centre around the cosy campfire, or indoors if the weather is very cold or wet. Teas, coffee and biscuits and a simple mid-day meal will be provided.
There is the opportunity to camp at the Centre with access to kitchen, w.c. and shower. There is a small charge of £5 per person/per night. (Please note that unlike the previous courses this a ONE day course)
If you book through the website please pay the full cost if possible.
If you wish to just pay the deposit then the balance must be paid by 4 weeks before the course date.
