Mindfulness in the Woods
‘Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to pray in and play in, where Nature may heal and cheer, and give strength to body and soul alike.’ John Muir
Whilst we are waiting for lockdown restrictions to be lifted and for us to run mindfulness sessions in our woodland again, we are currently running 4-week mindfulness courses delivered online.
Make some time for your own well-being. We provide opportunities for ”me time” in the tranquil setting of our woodland – a great place to put the stresses of life aside for a while.
There is evidence that time spent connecting with nature can help you to:
- Improve your mood
- Decrease anxiety
- Improve your immune system
- Reduce blood pressure
- De-stress and increase energy levels
- Improve your creativity, concentration and memory
- Calm emotional states
- Enhance ability to deal with illness and manage pain
- Improve your sense of life satisfaction
Our sessions are inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku – Forest Bathing – using the peace and rhythms of the natural world to send you home feeling relaxed and restored. You will go through guided and self-directed activities to help you connect with nature through the senses of smell, touch, taste, sight and hearing.
Our base is in the award-winning Warren Woods between Mold and Denbigh and in the heart of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We aim to spend the day in the woods but in case of inclement weather we have the use of one of our timber-frame meeting rooms with all facilities including wood-burner stove where we can start the sessions and end with a cup of tea and usually a simple meal. All you need is warm and waterproof clothing for the outdoors and suitable footwear.
Some of the mindful activities we offer during our more informal Mindfulness sessions include any of the following:
- Welcome circle and introduction
- Guided mindfulness walk
- Nature immersion activities
- Barefoot walking
- Guided nature connection meditation
- Craftwork using natural materials
- Vegetarian lunch cooked on the campfire
- Cloud watching
- Reflection time
- Closing circle
(activities are weather depending)
Sessions are led by Sabine Soosten – a lifelong practitioner of mindfulness – a member of the Woodland Skills Centre team who is a Level 3 ‘Mindfulness in a Woodland Setting’ and a Qualified UKCMM Accredited Practitioner and Teacher of Mindfulness Meditation.
Please get touch if you want more details or to discuss these retreat days.
